A kalash in German Silver, chased over its whole body, with ॐ raised on a plain band around the belly. It comes apart into three pieces and stacks back together in a second.

Why it is three pieces

A purna kalash is a pot of water with mango leaves set around the mouth and a coconut resting on top. This one is built in that shape permanently:

  • The pot — chased floral bands top and bottom, the Om band across the middle, a plain polished throat and a plain inside.
  • The petal collar — a ring of lotus petals that sits on the mouth, where the leaves would go. Each petal is worked on both faces.
  • The domed lid — fluted and finished with a small flower at the crown, sitting in the collar where the coconut would sit.

Nothing screws together. Three pieces, stacked, which also means you can use the pot on its own when you want to.

The honest version of what that buys you: no mango leaves to find, no coconut to source, and nothing to dismantle and throw away afterwards. It is the arrangement made permanent — which is either exactly what you want, or not what you want at all if your family sets a fresh kalash each time. Both are fair.

It is small — read the number

4.5 inches tall assembled. That is a mandir-shelf kalash, not a mandap kalash. It sits comfortably beside framed photographs and in a puja almirah; it will not hold its own as a centrepiece on a floor arrangement.

Using it

  • The pot is open and plain inside, so it holds water for kalash sthapana at griha pravesh, Navratri, or Lakshmi puja at Diwali.
  • If you fill it, empty and dry it the same day. Standing water is the one thing that reliably marks German Silver, and it will find its way into the chasing.
  • Left dry, it is a shelf piece year round — which is most of what these actually do.

Material and care

German Silver is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc. There is no silver in it — the name describes the colour, not the content. There is no gold polish anywhere on this piece.

  • Wipe the raised surfaces with a dry cotton cloth and leave the recesses alone. The darkness that settles into the chasing is what makes the flower work and the Om read.
  • No metal polish, no scouring powder. The cutting here is fine, and polish flattens it — particularly on the petals, which are thin.
  • Take the three parts off each other to clean them. Water trapped between the collar and the throat is what causes spotting.
  • It will darken over a few months. That is tarnish, not damage — the care guide has the method.

Why people give it

The kalash is the object of a new house — it is what gets set down and filled on the day people move in. That makes it the most on-the-nose griha pravesh gift we sell, in the good way: nobody has to wonder what it is for. It also suits Navratri, Diwali, a wedding, and setting up a mandir for the first time.

In the box

  • One kalash pot, German Silver
  • One lotus petal collar
  • One domed lid
  • Red velvet gift box with a brass clasp

The flowers, diya and petals in the photographs are styling, not part of the order.

What exactly is German Silver?

An alloy of copper, nickel and zinc — no silver in it at all. It holds a bright, warm shine, resists tarnish far better than sterling, and costs a fraction as much. Indian households have used it for generations for exactly this reason.

How do I clean and care for it?

Warm water, mild soap, soft cloth — then dry it straight away. No steel wool, no scouring powder. Wipe off ghee, oil and kumkum the same day. It will darken slowly over months; that is tarnish, not damage, and a dry cloth brings it back.

When will it reach me?

Dispatched within 48 hours with a tracking link by SMS and email. 3–4 working days to metros, 4–6 elsewhere. Prepaid only — we do not offer cash on delivery.

Can I return it?

Yes — within 7 days of delivery, unused and in its original box, for a full refund. We arrange the pickup. Engraved pieces are the only exception.

Hand-finished German Silver pieces arranged on plinths — an engraved thali, jali water bottle and tumblers, lotus aarti diya and a gold-lined bowl in a velvet box

Why German Silver

Made to be used, not stored away

Every piece is spun on a hand lathe rather than pressed out of a die, chased with a chisel, and checked by a person before it is seated in its velvet case.

  • An alloy the whole way through — there is no plating to wear off
  • Resists tarnish far better than sterling — a dry cloth, not a polish kit
  • Food-safe and non-reactive — serve prasad, kheer and dry fruit from it
