Corporate Diwali gifting goes wrong in the same three ways every year: decided too late, chosen for the photograph rather than the recipient, and dispatched into a courier network already at breaking point. All three are avoidable, and all three are about timing.
Work backwards from the festival
A realistic timeline for a branded order of any size:
- 6 weeks out — shortlist and request samples. Handling the actual piece is the only reliable way to judge weight and finish.
- 4 weeks out — confirm quantity and approve engraving artwork. Most delays happen here, waiting on a logo file.
- 3 weeks out — order placed. Engraving capacity across suppliers is genuinely full past this point; it is not a sales tactic.
- 10 days out — last safe dispatch. Courier networks slow noticeably in the fortnight before Diwali regardless of who is shipping.
Budget per head, honestly
Rough bands that hold across most Indian companies:
- Rs 500–1,000 — a single considered piece: a diya, a bowl and spoon, a tealight holder. Works well for large employee counts.
- Rs 1,000–2,500 — a small set or a substantial single piece. The band where a gift starts feeling personal rather than procedural.
- Rs 2,500–5,000 — client and senior gifting. A hamper, a dry fruit box, or a serving set.
One caution worth knowing: gifts above certain values can create a taxable perquisite for the employee. Check with your finance team before committing to a high-value employee gift.
What makes a corporate gift survive
The test is whether it is still in the house in March.
- Useful beats decorative. A serving tray gets used. A branded showpiece gets shelved.
- Discreet branding. Engraving on the underside or a small mark on the rim keeps the piece giftable. A large logo across the face makes it corporate property, and it goes in a drawer.
- Weight signals care. Recipients cannot price your gift, but they can feel it. A smaller piece with real substance reads better than a large hollow one.
- Packaging is half the gift. If it needs re-wrapping before it can be handed over, it will not be handed over.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- Buying plated metalware in volume. It looks identical on day one and visibly worn by the second year — exactly the association you do not want attached to your brand.
- One gift for everyone. Splitting into two or three tiers costs little and lands far better than a single flat choice.
- Shipping everything to the office. If your team is distributed, multi-address dispatch saves an enormous amount of internal effort. Send the list once and let the supplier ship to each recipient.
- Leaving artwork to the last week. Engraving is the bottleneck, always.
How we handle it
Rajat Veda supplies German Silver corporate gifting from 25 units — an alloy the whole way through rather than a plated shell, so it does not wear back to base metal in year two. Logo engraving, custom packaging and multi-address dispatch are all available, and every piece ships in its own velvet presentation box.
