A 500 ml glass bottle held in a German Silver filigree sleeve, with a stainless steel screw lid. The glass is hobnailed through the middle and clear at the shoulder, so you can see the water level through the pattern. It arrives in a red velvet box, which is the reason most people buy it — it is a gift that does not need wrapping.

What the casing actually is

The filigree is a German Silver sleeve, not a print or a coating on the glass. The scrollwork is pierced right through, which is why you can see the water behind it, and it is what takes the wear on a bottle that gets picked up twenty times a day. Two bands — a deep collar at the shoulder and a matching one at the base — with the dotted glass left bare in between.

German Silver is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc. There is no silver in it. The name describes the colour, not the content. It will darken slowly, faster where fingers hold it. That is tarnish, not damage — a dry cloth brings it back, and the care guide has the full method.

Glass, on purpose

Water sitting in plastic picks up a taste by the afternoon, and steel gives everything a faint metallic edge. Glass gives you back exactly what you put in — which matters if you drink lemon and mint water, or anything infused, where the whole point is the flavour.

Size

  • Capacity — 500 ml
  • Height — 8 inch, lid on
  • Width — 2.7 inch across the widest band
  • Stainless steel screw lid

It stands on a desk or a dining table and fits most handbags upright. It will not fit a narrow car cup-holder — 2.7 inch is wider than most holders take.

A gift for a house, a wedding, or a desk

This is the gift you hand over when you do not know the house yet. It is useful every single day, it does not need shelf space or a nail in a wall, and it is not the fourth photo frame. It suits griha pravesh and housewarming, wedding and return gifting, Diwali and Dhanteras, a new office, and corporate gifting where you need one thing that works for everybody on the list.

How to look after it

  • Hand wash only. A dishwasher will pit the German Silver and loosen the sleeve. Warm water, mild soap, a soft brush for the glass.
  • Cold and room-temperature drinks. Not for hot liquids, not for the microwave, not for the freezer.
  • Dry the metal after washing. Water left standing in the filigree is what causes spotting.
  • It is glass. Treat it like glass.

In the box

  • One filigree water bottle, 500 ml, with its stainless steel lid
  • Red velvet gift box with a brass clasp

What exactly is German Silver?

An alloy of copper, nickel and zinc — no silver in it at all. It holds a bright, warm shine, resists tarnish far better than sterling, and costs a fraction as much. Indian households have used it for generations for exactly this reason.

How do I clean and care for it?

Warm water, mild soap, soft cloth — then dry it straight away. No steel wool, no scouring powder. Wipe off ghee, oil and kumkum the same day. It will darken slowly over months; that is tarnish, not damage, and a dry cloth brings it back.

When will it reach me?

Dispatched within 48 hours with a tracking link by SMS and email. 3–4 working days to metros, 4–6 elsewhere. Prepaid only — we do not offer cash on delivery.

Can I return it?

Yes — within 7 days of delivery, unused and in its original box, for a full refund. We arrange the pickup. Engraved pieces are the only exception.

Hand-finished German Silver pieces arranged on plinths — an engraved thali, jali water bottle and tumblers, lotus aarti diya and a gold-lined bowl in a velvet box

Why German Silver

Made to be used, not stored away

Every piece is spun on a hand lathe rather than pressed out of a die, chased with a chisel, and checked by a person before it is seated in its velvet case.

  • An alloy the whole way through — there is no plating to wear off
  • Resists tarnish far better than sterling — a dry cloth, not a polish kit
  • Food-safe and non-reactive — serve prasad, kheer and dry fruit from it
